BUDGENS SWITCHES TO OMSCo ORGANIC MILK

This press release was posted on : 03rd December 2003

It was announced today that Budgens, the supermarket chain with over 225 stores, is soon to change its dairy supplier for 2pt and 4pt organic milk. The milk for these two products will be sourced from Arla Foods UK plc and will be produced by the Organic Milk Suppliers Cooperative (OMSCo).

The move has been welcomed by OMSCo's 300 farmer members, coming hot on the heels of the recent decision by fast-food giant, McDonalds, to switch its conventional bottled milk to OMSCo organic milk, and the decision by Morrisons to source its organic milk from the co-operative. Recent TNS data shows huge growth in sales of organic milk across the board, with the market continuing to grow by 30% year on year.

OMSCo's Chief Executive, Sally Bagenal, commented: "We are very excited to be selling our milk to Budgens, via Arla Foods UK. Our research shows that many consumers are keen to see organic milk on offer in their local convenience stores such as Budgens, as well as in the larger superstores. There is a lot of scope to promote organic milk as a convenient and healthy option within these particular retail environments."

"We're delighted that Arla Foods UK has chosen OMSCo to fulfil its new contract with Budgens, and look forward to developing this relationship further as the organic dairy market continues to grow."
