ORGANIC MILK BOOSTS NEW YEAR WEIGHT LOSS
This press release was posted on : 29th August 2003
If you are looking to get in shape this new year, then one simple change to help you on your way is to swap your daily pinta to organic. Organic milk contains higher levels of Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) than non organic milk and researchers have found that CLAs can help shed the flab. By switching to organic milk and dairy you can naturally increase your CLA intake, and aid any new year shape up plan.
Organic milk has higher levels of CLAs (1) because it is produced by cows who are eating an organic diet with more grass, hay and preserved grasses (silage). Most non organic cows are fed with genetically modified concentrates, processed cattlefeed and less grass which is treated with synthetic pesticides.
Many people believe that they should cut out dairy as soon as you start a diet but this could actually be reducing the effectiveness of weight loss plans. Researchers have found that women who regularly consume at least 780mg calcium from dairy products had no increase in body fat or actually lost fat compared to women who consumed less than 780mg per day (2).
So to lose weight successfully, increase your intake of CLAs and calcium by making low fat organic dairy part of your daily diet.
Did you know?
• CLA rich organic milk is also thought to boost your immune system, helping to fight off winter colds and flu - researchers are currently investigating if it can help fight cancers. (3)
• You should try to include 3 servings of organic dairy in your diet each day. A serving is a glass of organic milk, a small carton of organic yoghurt or a couple of slices of organic cheese.
• The recommended daily consumption of calcium is 800 mg
• According to the British Nutrition Foundation almost half women aged 19-50 consume less than the recommended level of calcium from food.
• Calcium pills or supplements do not appear to be as effective for dieters as milk, cheese and yoghurt.

Editors Notes
Unlike ordinary milk, organic cows are fed on grass and hay that isn't treated with pesticides, they are not fed on GM cattlefeed and are only given antibiotics when ill, unlike non organic cows.
