This press release was posted on : 17th June 2002
Thousands of playgroups all over the country are mobilising in support of Sport Relief, this summers new fundraising campaign from Comic Relief and BBC Sport, which aims to raise money for vulnerable children and young people here in the UK and across the world.
An army of tots on trikes will be taking part in the OMSCO-Sport Relief Trikeathon, a sponsored tricycling event which was launched today. They will be joining Britains grown-ups by getting active for Sport Relief during this years summer of sport.
A number of sports greatest names are already supporting the Sport Relief campaign including David Beckham, Michael Owen, Tim Henman and our greatest paralympic wheelchair gold medallist, Tanni Grey-Thompson who said, The OMSCo-Sport Relief Trikeathon is a great way for young children and their parents to get involved, by raising funds and having some fun." The Trikeathon is also being backed by actress Zoe Wannamaker and celebrity chef Sophie Grigson.
The organisers are calling for people to get involved in the OMSCo-Sport Relief Trikeathon on the 26th June. They want kids to take part at their local playgroups or through parties held by parents.
Organic dairy farmers nationwide are leading the way by hosting Trikeathon events for local playgroups at their farms. Log on to www.sportrelief.com/trikeathon for more information and fantastic fundraising ideas, such as:
· Sell tickets to parents for the Trikeathon party
· Take photographs of the event and sell them to friends and family to raise money
· If theres not enough trikes, ask the kids to bring their own trikes or rideon toys from home to take part!
OMSCo, a cooperative of British organic dairy farmers are committed to offering children a healthy start in life by producing more pure, more natural organic milk and by encouraging a healthier lifestyle. Thats why they are partnering with Sport Relief to create the OMSCo-Sport Relief Trikeathon. OMSCos milk is produced without GM feeds, synthetic pesticides or routine use of antibiotics. As Tanni says, "Healthy kids love milk and what could be better than pure and natural organic milk!"

q OMSCo - the Organic Milk Suppliers Cooperative - is the UK's leading organic milk marketing organisation. Formed in 1994 by a group of five like-minded farming operations in the West of England, including the Elm Farm Research Centre's farm, and the Prince of Wales' Duchy of Cornwall Home Farm in Tetbury, our members now number well over 350 farmers, and supply the majority of organic milk produced in this country.
q OMSCo upholds consumer interests by insisting on the highest ethical standards and is committed to best practice in the interests of human health, animal welfare and the protection of the environment.
q British organic milk comes from cows that unlike conventional cows - are not given routine antibiotics and have not grazed on pastures treated with artificial pesticides.
q Sport Relief is an exciting new fundraising campaign from Comic Relief and BBC Sport. It aims to unite the world of sport to raise money for vulnerable children and young people here at home and across the world by inspiring the whole of the UK to get active during this years great summer of sport. The campaign will run up to Saturday July 13th and culminate in a block busting night on BBC One of sport, celebrities, entertainment, and fundraising.
For every pound Sport Relief gets from the public, a pound will be given to a project helping children and young people who are leading unimaginably tough lives. Half of it will stay here in the UK, and the other half will go to some of the poorest countries in the world. The Government's Commonwealth Education Fund, launched in this Jubilee Year, will match the money allocated by Sport Relief to projects helping children to get an education in the poorest countries of the Commonwealth.

OMSCo was formed in 1994 when five like-minded
organic dairy farmers joined forces to sell their organic milk. Now with around 500 members, OMSCo is the largest and longest established UK organic milk supplier.
