ORGANIC DAIRY FARMERS LAUNCH ALL-ORGANIC MILK ROUND
This press release was posted on : 14th May 2002
Three organic dairy farmers near Cardigan have launched their very own all-organic milk round. Laurence Harris from Ffosyficer, Abercych, Carwyn James from Clôs, Rhoshill and John Morris from Llwynpiod Cardigan are launching Three Farms Milk (Llaeth Tair Fferm) which will be delivered to selected shops and houses in their local area.
Laurence Harris a member of The Organic Milk Suppliers Cooperative explains: We had the opportunity to acquire a village milk round and realised we could deliver our organic milk to people keen to buy local produce.
This is an exciting time for us as this is part of a project that we have been working on for some time with the support of the Welsh Development Agency. By buying our organic milk consumers will not only be supporting local organic farmers, but they will also be supporting their local shops, both of which are important for the local economy and the farming industry as a whole.
Bruce Carlise, Head of OMSCo Wales said: It is fantastic news that people in and around Cardigan will be able to buy locally produced healthy organic milk.
Organic dairy farming practices have been shown to produce great environmental benefits by increasing biodiversity of plants and wildlife. Organic milk comes from cows that:
- are not fed genetically modified feed
- are not given routine antibiotics.
- do not graze on pastures routinely sprayed with artificial fertilisers.
By drinking organic milk, people can be confident that they are minimising exposure to chemical residues and associated health risks and also contributing to the preservation of their local environment.

OMSCo was formed in 1994 when five like-minded
organic dairy farmers joined forces to sell their organic milk. Now with around 500 members, OMSCo is the largest and longest established UK organic milk supplier.
