Switch to organic milk for less than £1 a week*
Many people want to introduce organic food into their family's diet but perceive it to be prohibitively expensive. However, by making a few simple changes it is possible to include more organic food in your diet without breaking the bank. Not all organic products cost a huge amount more that their non-organic equivalents. Organic milk, in particular, is excellent value compared with non-organic - a family of four can make the switch for less than a £1 a week!
Cheap Changes to Improve Your Lifestyle
However, saving a few pence here and there doesn't mean compromising your lifestyle, according to Independent Money Saving Expert, Alvin Hall. He has worked with us to compile our Cheap Changes guide to show you how to make the best of your money.
Alvin's top tips for making cheap changes to improve your lifestyle include:
- Take advantage of seasonal specials - especially at Farmers' Markets, when an abundance of produce means lower prices.
- Buy organic staples such as milk - switching to organic milk costs less than £1 a week* and contains more Omega3, antioxidants and essential fatty acids than non-organic milk
- Dine as a family with everyone at the table - preparing one, healthy, well-balanced meal for the entire family is cheaper and reduces your work load
- Make the most of free facilities - use the public library for regular outings to discover and read books and visit museums and historic sites that will be of interest to your children
- Try not to buy too many special occasion items - especially clothing, that may be used only once or twice before the child outgrows them
- Carry in your wallet only the amount of money that is your daily spending limit - It's always much harder to spend cash than use a credit card
- Shop at different supermarkets in order to compare prices and to become familiar with their promotions and special offers.
- Wash more of your laundry on lower heat settings - this will help lower utility bills and is better for the environment. Many of the new, biodegradable detergents work just as well in cold water as in hot

Top tips for those wanting to go organic for less include:
- Shop around - don't just stick to one supplier, compare the prices of supermarkets, local stores, online services, farmers markets and box schemes
- Buy seasonal produce - nutritionally it is preferable to buy local, seasonal produce but it is often cheaper too
- Meat as a treat - buy better quality organic meat but a little less often. Try introducing different cuts of meat into your diet, for example chicken thighs are cheaper than chicken breasts but just as tasty
- Reduce processed foods - cut out expensive processed foods; cooking for yourself costs less and goes further.
- Use your freezer - cook in bulk and freeze the surplus for healthy 'ready meals'.
* Based on a family of 4, drinking 7 pints a week switching to organic milk it would cost less than a £1 a week.

OMSCo was formed in 1994 when five like-minded
